FNCA 2020 Climate Change Science Research Project Workshop |
Report of
FNCA FY2020 Online Workshop on
Research on Climate Change using Nuclear and Isotopic Technologies
November 5th - 6th, 2020
[Workshop]
The fourth meeting ran from 5th and 6th November 2020 and was as a zoom on-line meeting.
Ms Lynn Tan (ANSTO FNCA Coordinator) and Mr Wada (FNCA Coordinator for Japan) opened the on-line meeting.
The meeting started by giving all countries the opportunity to present the status of the research and progress against their national project plans. Mongolia was unavailable for this meeting.
After the member-country presentations there were discussions about progress in general, dependencies on equipment, analysis and facilities in other countries. An inventory was made by each country about the type and level of support needed to progress further. An agreement was reached about plans, level of support and sharing of information.
[Discussion]
A couple of discussion were held:
There was a good discussion about information sharing between countries. The following topics will be
shared with the group in the form of PDF protocols, instructions and or lists:
Data interpretation - A part of the final meeting in the Philippines (October 2021) will be dedicated to data interpretation. Suitable lead scientists will be ask to demonstrate step by step the scientific method used to move from data collection to data interpretation and final conclusions.
[Plans]
- Possible final meeting of the project (late 2021)
- Locations: Philippines (difficult with COVID) or Tokyo (MEXT), as a backup we suggested another on-line meeting
- Plans for a follow-up project on Climate Change and Food security (using nuclear techniques) will also be further developed and discussed at the final meeting of this project.
