Thai - Korea Signed MOU on Nuclear Development

Office of Atoms for Peace, The Kingdom of Thailand and Atomic Energy Bureau, The Republic of Korea Signed the Memorandum of Understanding for Atomic Energy Cooperation in March 24th, 2004 Mr. Korn Thapparansi, The Minister of Science and Technology presited over the Signing ceremony.


Mr. Pathom Yamkate, the Secretary-General, Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP), the Ministry of Science and Technology, stated that the research and development in peaceful uses of nuclear technology in Thailand has been carried out by OAP for more than 40 years. In order to maximize the benefit and effectiveness of nuclear energy applications in Thailand, the cooperation among institutes, both domestic and international, is needed. The signing ceremony of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between OAP and Atomic Energy Bureau (AEB), the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Republic of Korea was, therefore, organized for Atomic Energy Cooperation. The ceremony took place at the meeting room, 4th floor of the Ministry of Science and Technology, in Wednesday, March 24th, 2004, at 13.00 hrs. At this auspicious occasion, OAP had the honor of Mr. Korn Thapparansi, the Minister of Science and Technology to preside over the ceremony.

Mr. Pathom also stated that the activities to be undertaken under the MOU involve solely in peaceful uses of nuclear energy, including the utilization of research reactor, human resources development, scientists and expert exchange, and sharing of technical information. The stated cooperation and activities will ensure the development of nuclear technology applications in Thailand since the Republic of Korea is competent in this matter.
