Training Course on
"Food and Agricultural Product Irradiation"
Co - operation between Technology Clinics of OAP
and Burapa University

   Technology Clinics of Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP) and Burapa University (BU) held a Training Course on "Food and Agricultural Product Irradiation" during 18-19 May, 2006 at BU, Cholburi Province. The objective of the training course was to give knowledge on food and agricultural product irradiation to farmers and entrepreneurs in the eastern part of Thailand . There are around 95 people attended this training course.

   Clinic Technology is the co-operation among Ministry of Science and Technology and various academic institutes all over Thailand . Its objectives are to transfer research work and innovation of MOST and academic institutes and give an advice and information to local residents and communities. Means of dissemination information are holding mobile unit exhibition, training course and broadcast through local's medias, etc. This co-operation will create network of lecturers in academic institutes, enhance the abilities of local residents and commercial value as well as bring a better quality of life to Thai people by S&T.

   

Papaya Salad
ingredients from irradiated products of OAP

    On 22 May 2006 , Dr. Manoon Aramrattana, Secretary - General of Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP) attended the Seminar on "Ethics and Responsibility of Entrepreneur" at Chao Phraya Park Hotel, Bangkok . This Seminar was organized by Nutrition Association of Thailand, Thai Restaurant Association, Society Development Association. There were representatives from government sector, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, Department of Health and food entrepreneurs.

   OAP's Secretary - General had an opportunity to give a speech and demonstrate how to cook "Papaya Salad" to the participants. The ingredients of this menu were irradiated products from the OAP, i.e. dried shrimp, fermented fish, salted crab, peanut, chili, garlic, etc.
Many exhibitions from various organizations were displayed, including the irradiated products from OAP.

   

Irradiated fruit for export

    On 1 June, 2006 , Thai Irradiation Center (TIC) which is the organization under the Office of Atoms for Peace (OAEP) started its first time for selling their products at OAP, Vibhavadi Rangsit Road .

    TIC is now running the project on irradiated fruits for export which the initial market is in the USA . There are 6 kinds of fruits, i.e. mango, mangosteen, lychee, longan, rambutan and pineapple. TIC is renovating its plant so as modernized to support this project. The government of the USA is now in the process of issuing the law concerning this matter. It is expected that in this September, TIC will be able to start exporting to the USA .

   In the meantime, TIC have the pilot project in irradiated food and fruit in Thailand . Its objectives are to enhance the knowledge to the public, and farmers will be able to prepare their products qualified for the export procedure.

The Signing Ceremony of the Agreement on
Development and Transfer Technology Cooperation

   On 3 May, 2006 Dr. Pravich Rattanapian, Minister of Science and Technology, presided over the Signing Ceremony of the Agreement on Development and Transfer Technology Cooperation between Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) and the Office of SMEs Promotion (Ministry of Industry). The objective of the agreement is to execute the integrated activities between the two organizations so as to enhance and develop the capability of the entrepreneurs.

   Exhibition from various organizations were displayed during the Ceremony including an exhibition from the Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP).

Nuclear Technology : CU Special Master and
Doctoral Program for OAP Members.

   On 9 May, 2006 Dr. Direk Lavansiri, Dean of Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University (CU) and Dr. Manoon Aramrattana, Secretary - General of the Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP) signed the Agreement on Human Resource Development in Nuclear Technology : CU Special Master and Doctoral Program for OAP Members.

   The objective of the agreement is to increase graduated and doctoral students of the faculty in conformity with the Science and Technology National Strategic Plan. People who attended the ceremony visited OAP's facilities after the signing ceremony.

 


28th Meeting of National RCA Representatives
March 27 - 31, 2006, Bangkok, Thailand.

   In accordance with the Regional Co-operative Agreement for Research, Development and Training Related to Nuclear Science and Technology for Asia and the Pacific (RCA), and as Thailand is one of the Member States, Office of Atoms for Peace, Ministry of Science and Technology will host 28th Meeting of National RCA Representatives during March 27 - 31, 2006 at the Amari Boulevard Hotel, Bangkok. The purpose of the meeting are to review and improve the co-operative project established, to approve the co-operative projects proposed, to consider co-operative policies, and to overall manage how to plan, develop, and coordinate the budgetary strategies.

   The meeting comprises a provisional agenda, a scientific forum by domestic and foreign special lecturers, an exhibition by the Member States, and a technical visit to Thailand Science Park. The participants, approximately 35 of numbers, will be the high-rank delegates from the Member States, and from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the RCA Regional Office (RCARO).

    The Regional Co-operative Agreement for Research, Development and Training Related to Nuclear Science and Technology for Asia and the Pacific consists of co-operation among 17 Member States i.e. Australia, Bangladesh, the People's Republic of China, India, Indonesia, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, New Zealand, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Viet Nam.
