Seminar on
"International Data Center (IDC) Information
for Early Warning System"
Co - operation between OAP and CTBTO

   On 2 June 2006, Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP) in collaboration with Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) held a Seminar on "International Data Center (IDC) Information for Early Warning System" at OAP.

   The objectives of the Seminar were to show all organizations, that involves with the International Monitoring System, the way and how to use the information from IDC for Early Warning System.

   Mr. Lassina Zerbo, Director of International Data Center, CTBTO was the lecturer in this Seminar.


OAP/JAEA Joint Training Courses
on Nuclear and Radiological Emergency Preparedness

   The utilization of radiation and radioisotopes in various applications such as agriculture, medicine, industry and research and development has gradually increased in Thailand. Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP), which is the government organization responsible for control and regulation of radiological safety and served as a center for technical coordination in case of radiological emergency accident, is well aware of the importance of these responsibilities. Two OAP/JAEA Joint Training Courses on Nuclear and Radiological Emergency Preparedness were held at Ongkharak Nuclear Research Center (ONRC), Nakornnayok Province recently in co - operation with Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA). The first course was conducted for key personnel who has responsibilities to undertake intervention in emergency situation during 22-23 June 2006. The second course was conducted for Radiological Emergency Working Group of OAP during 26-30 June 2006. One of the significant parts of the second course was the drill for emergency crisis on the last day. Its aim is to prepare for the readiness of radiological emergency response and thus can promptly alleviated the harshness of radiological emergency when occurs.

 
   

STKC Annual Conference 2006

   During 19 - 20 June, 2006, Ministry of Science and Technology held the STKC Annual Conference 2006 at Queen Sirikit National Convention Center. Dr. Pravich Rattanapian, Minister of Science and Technology presided over the conference and His Excellency Mr. Denis Comeau, the Ambassador of Canada to Thailand also gave a speech as an honorable guest. There were many lectures from Thai experts and foreigners including exhibition from various organizations. Around 900 participants attended the Conference.

   STKC (Science and Technology Knowledge Center) is the various kinds of science and technology information services, especially knowledge from scientists' experience. It is the center of folk wisdom which consists of scientific research and the knowledge management from science and technology libraries for public's access through internet, with two - way communication among public, experts, scientists, technologists, academics, youngsters and businessmen.

   STKC serves like a classroom, laboratory, museum, shop and library with combination of libraries from every organizations under Ministry of S &T and digital libraries in order to disseminate information through http://www.stkc.go.th.
