FNCA 2006 Public Information (PI) on Nuclear Energy Project

Thailand:

Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP) is holding a "Knowledge Development Project on Science and Nuclear Technology" in four parts of Thailand. This project aims to enhance a public understanding of nuclear technology and to promote a sense of safety for school-teachers and students.

The project comprises press conferences, seminar and road shows about nuclear energy, nuclear youth camps, and E-library. These activities were given in Chiang Mai province (north) on 12, 16-17 December, 2006 and will be given during 2007 in Pitsanuloke province (middle), U-bon Ratchatani province (north east), and Nakorn Sritammarat province (south). A computer set will be installed at one leading school in each province, and the science and nuclear technology information in various forms such as feature, cartoon, brochure, handbook or other publications will be delivered through the E-library. Anyone who is interested in the information can take a copy of them at little expense.

Bureau of Radiation Safety Regulation

Activities on Radiation Safety

The staff of the Bureau of Radiation Safety Regulation (BRSR), Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP), has been to a south part of Thailand, 13-21 December, 2006, to investigate the equipments and safety procedures at the radiation institutes in its area. They made recommendations on the radiation safety to those institutes based on the Atoms for Peace Act. B.E. 2504 (revised B.E. 2508). They also gave clear answers to the questions about issuing licenses for possessing radioactive materials and radiation sources.

During the period of the investigation, 18-19 December, BRSR/OAP, in collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine, Prince of Songkla University, held a meeting on "Issuing Licenses for Import or Possession of Nuclear Materials". The objective of the meeting was to give information on the condition and procedure to apply for the license.
